Eco-Friendly Motor Powered by Static Electricity

Eco-Friendly Motor Powered by Static Electricity
Sep-10-14
A prototype electric motor that relies on electrostatic forces rather than magnets has brought a new driving-force technology to the market.

The tabletop motor, developed by the startup C-Motive Technologies, is proof of concept of a new type of motor based on electrostatic attraction. The motor features a Hyrdoflex plate stacking system created by the company that provides the contact-free power transfer between the stationary and rotating parts. The system maintains a tiny, yet consistent, gap between the two plates that is key to making capacitive power practical for large-scale applications.

Besides cutting down on maintenance, weight and material costs, the electrostatic motor does not require the use of rare earth metals.
