EcoDrain Captures Hot Water to Warm Cold Water

EcoDrain Captures Hot Water to Warm Cold Water
Jul-09-14
The EcoDrain makes use of the warm water from showers or baths by capturing the heat from the draining water and using it to help heat up the incoming cold water.

Although there are several versions of hot water heat recyclers on the market, the EcoDrain differs in that it does not need long length of vertical pipe for installation. Instead, the device can be installed horizontally next to the drain, which also allows it to capture the heat more effectively. It is made up of a double-walled pipe that lets the cold water flow through the middle while the hot water exits along the outside, heating the cold water as it passes by. An array of baffles in the cold water section causes turbulence in the water, exposing more of the water to the heat energy.

According to the developers, the EcoDrain could offer a yearly savings of up to $250, or could allow users to shower for 33 percent longer without increasing their carbon footprint.
