Eye Pressure Pump Could Prevent Blindness

Eye Pressure Pump Could Prevent Blindness
Jul-06-15
A tiny implantable pump able to stabilize pressure in the eye could help improve patients’ vision and possibly prevent blindness.

The pump, developed by a team from Fraunhofer University, consists of a microfluidic system that includes a small battery, a tiny pump and a pressure gauge. When the pressure gauge detects too much or too little pressure from the intraocular fluids, it will trigger the pump to move the fluid either to or from the eye via the eye’s natural pathways.
