Flexible Battery Can be Made at Home

Flexible Battery Can be Made at Home
Nov-06-13
Using carbon nanotubes, researchers have developed a battery that is not only flexible, but can also be scaled to suit any size device.

Created by a team from NJIT, the battery is made up of carbon nanotubes and micro-particles that function as active components. The design will keep the active components contained while the battery is being flexed. According to Somenath Mitra, “This battery can be made as small as a pinhead or as large as a carpet in your living room.”

As an added bonus, the battery can be made at home by consumers using a battery kit that includes electrode paste and a laminating machine. The DIY battery-maker would only need to coat two plastic sheets with the paste, lay a plastic separator between the sheets and then laminate the whole bit—creating a battery assembly that would function like a double- or triple-A battery
