Fold&Float Floating Emergency Housing

Fold&Float Floating Emergency Housing
Jan-13-19
The Fold&Float innovative prototype floating shelter from SO? could offer a source of emergency housing after a natural disaster.

The triangular Fold&Float shelter was created with the idea that some cities, such as the design firm’s own Istanbul, could face a shortage of housing-suitable land after a major earthquake. The shelter consists of a steel-frame A-frame with furniture attached via hinges that can fold out when the structure is opened, and a floating pontoon base. The Fold&Float packs flat for transport and can be quickly installed when needed.

The Fold&Float was created as part of the 4th Istanbul Design Biennial in 2018 Hope On Water project.

To save personal documents and other valuables at ordinary homes some cabinets might be floating and especially be sealed waterproof by moisture.
