Foldable Drone Slips Through the Cracks

Foldable Drone Slips Through the Cracks
Dec-12-18
A foldable drone able to slim down for tight spaces could assist during search and rescue missions.

Created by a team from the University of Zurich and EPFL, the drone is equipped with propeller arms able to retract in flight without disturbing the drone’s momentum. According to the team, the key to the successful design is the drone’s specialized onboard control system, able to adapt to the changing position of the arms in real time. In addition to squeezing through small holes, the drone can also carry cargo or manipulate a camera.
