FRED Ocean Cleaning Robot Tested

Aug-22-19 The autonomous FRED ocean cleaning robot from Clear Blue Sea will travel on the water’s surface to remove floating debris.

The FRED (Floating Robot to Eliminate Debris) prototype was created by a team from the University of San Diego during an internship with the non-profit Clear Blue Sea. In tests, the solar-powered robot was deployed in Mission Bay, where it proved its mettle by collecting stray ping-pong balls and displaying its autonomous navigation capabilities.
