FrogPhone Lets Researchers Call Frogs for Science

FrogPhone Lets Researchers Call Frogs for Science
Dec-08-19
The FrogPhone lets scientists listen in on frog calls remotely, reducing trips to the site and risks of disturbing the frogs.

The quality of an area’s frog population provides valuable insight into its health, and is usually ascertained by analyzing the vocalizations of the frogs. To help keep scientists out of the swamps, a diverse team of Australian researchers created the solar-powered, waterproof FrogPhone. Once the system is installed, researchers can call into the FrogPhone to listen to the animals’ calls in real-time over a 3G/4G cellular service. The system will also gather information on air and water temperature, as well as current battery status.
