The GPhone device could one day allow diabetics to test their blood glucose with their phones.
Developed by a team from the University of California San Diego, the prototype device is equipped with a sensor that communicates with a circuit board, and a stylus that dispenses single-use pellets packed with the enzyme glucose oxidase. A pellet is placed on the sensor, followed by a sample of blood on the pellet. The blood glucose then reacts with the enzyme, generating an electric signal that is translated into a glucose level on the companion app.
