Graphene Flagship has developed a selection of graphene-based wearables that communicate with a smartphone to monitor health and sun exposure.
The prototype devices, created by Graphene Flagship in cooperation with the Institute of Photonic Sciences, include a UV patch that will monitor sun exposure and send an alert to a paired device. While UV monitoring patches are not uncommon, the team also unveiled a ‘fitness band’ patch that can measure temperature, heart and breathing rate, hydration and oxygen saturation. According to the team, the fitness band could have applications beyond the day-to-day, allowing adventurous trekkers to track their hydration and oxygen levels in extreme environments and take the proper steps if levels begin to fall.
