Green Bean Lets Users Hack GE Appliances

Green Bean Lets Users Hack GE Appliances
Sep-19-14
The Green Bean module from FirstBuild lets users access their GE appliance's 'brain' and re-program it to perform select functions.

Recently debuting at Maker Con, the open-source module allows uses to access the microcomputer inside certain GE appliances, including the dryer, refrigerator and range, and modify it to perform selected functions. Some previous programming knowledge is required (the software development kit is available online), and the community at FirstBuild is already featuring some of the new modifications and hardware users have created.

According to Taylor Dawson, GE Appliances engineer: “By giving anyone and everyone a direct path into the brain of our home appliances, we are endowing them with the ability to reprogram and reimagine the way that their appliances could work."
