GymCam System Finds and Counts Gym Reps

Sep-15-19 A fitness tracker for gym-goers, the GymCam system will scan the crowd to automatically identify exercises and count the number of repetitions.

Developed by the team at Carnegie Mellon University, the camera-based GymCam system features computer vision software that allows it to recognize repetitive motions and identify the exercise. The system can identify many different types of exercise, even if part of the body is obscured, and can communicate with a smartphone or paired with a piece of exercise equipment.
