Heat-Based Method Creates Virgin-Quality Plastic

Heat-Based Method Creates Virgin-Quality Plastic
Oct-22-19
A new plastic recycling process breaks the material down to the molecular level in order to create new products of equal quality.

One of the difficulties in recycling plastics is that the material does not break down well enough for circular use. To encourage the reuse of plastic, the team from the University of Chalmers developed a heat-based method that will turn plastic into a useful gas mixture that “can then be recycled at a molecular level to become new plastic materials of virgin quality.” The team states that the process can be applied to all types of plastics, offering a feasible way to reuse the material and keep it out of landfills.
