HemoLink Self-Administered Blood Draw

HemoLink Self-Administered Blood Draw
Apr-18-15
The HemoLink, a new device being sponsored by DARPA, would let patients painlessly draw their own blood for blood tests.

Developed by Tasso, Inc, the ping pong ball-sized device features patent-pending channels that rely on capillary action to painlessly draw the blood into the device over about two minutes. Once the blood has been collected in the small sample tube, it can be mailed or taken to a lab for evaluation.

The HemoLink could be particularly useful in rural areas where clinics are few and far between. “Instead of buying a machine or expensive equipment, we ship you this device, you put it on your arm for two minutes and send it back to the lab,” says co-founder Ben Casavant.
