The Hendo Hoverboard hads made a splash lately with its promise of an actual, self-powered levitating device able to support an adult with its magnetic field.
The hoverboard, already exceeding its Kickstarter goal, is powered by four round hover engines that create a magnetic field in order to generate lift—much like Maglev trains. The catch is: The hoverboard must be used on a non-ferrous surface, such as copper or aluminum, in order to function. The board has been successfully tested in its prototype form, but the Hendersons have bigger plans than a simple futuristic skateboard, and hope to see new industries based on the technology.
Greg Henderson, CEO of the company Arx Pax, admits that the design for the board grew out of the desire to create earthquake-proof buildings able to hover off the ground to avoid the tremors. With that in mind, the team is inviting tinkerers to buy and experiment with the Hendo hover's development kit and offer ideas that the company can then bring to market.
