Hexagonal Battery Offers More Smartwatch Life

Jul-05-15 The hexagonal smartwatch battery from LG Chem tackles the problem of limited battery life with its unusual, but better fitting, shape.

When used in round smartwatches, the coin-sized batteries are said to deliver 25 percent more capacity than standard batteries, or about four extra hours of use time. This increase is accomplished by the more efficient shape of the battery, which wastes less space than typical rectangular versions.

LG Chem is also experimenting with batteries in “various shapes,” including an L-shaped version and a rectangular battery with a hole in the middle.
