Designed with the urban homeless in mind, the rear of the Housetrike will extend to form a lockable sleeping compartment for one.
The Housetrike takes its inspiration in part from the sliding compartment extensions used on many camping vehicles today. The sliding design allows the Housetrike to remain relatively nimble—it rides a bit like a cargo bike—and setting up the sleeping area takes less than a minute. Once the sleeping space has been extended and supported by its pair of legs, the user can close and lock the door from the inside. The rather tight space is alleviated somewhat by a pair of porthole-like windows.
Although the Housetrike could appeal to a wide range of bikers and self-propelled vagabonds, designer Bas Sprakel intends to focus on making the camperbike available first to the homeless.
