Hydrophobic Coating Repels Soap

Hydrophobic Coating Repels Soap
Jun-27-16
Researchers have created a new hydrophobic coating that could help reduce product waste while also making recycling easier.

Created by a team from Ohio State, the patent-pending microscopic lining is made of silica nanoparticle-based y-shaped structures. The 'y' shapes overlap to reduce surface tension, causing liquids to slide off the coating. While coatings already exist that that let foods slip out of their containers, this is the first coating aimed at soaps in particular—though it will work with all liquids.
