A wireless light for use during surgeries reduces the chances of complications by making it easier for surgeons to focus on the task at hand.
Developed by a team from Texas A&M, the light system is embedded in the absorbent pad used by surgeons, with the LED located in the central layer. The light is enclosed in biocompatible materials, so it is safe for use within the body, and allows for more direct illumination in the area where the surgeon is working. The arrangement of the LEDs can be altered to provide situation-specific lighting, and the team hopes to see commercialization of the device in the near future.
