Inflatable Greenhouse Could Feed Men on Mars

Inflatable Greenhouse Could Feed Men on Mars
Apr-27-17
NASA’s Prototype Lunar/Mars Greenhouse project envisions using inflatable greenhouses to grow food on other planets.

Developed by a team from the University of Arizona, with help from NASA, the inflatable greenhouse would be integrated with the station’s life support systems. Carbon dioxide from the astronaut’s respiration would be used to support the plants, and water would be either transported with the system or harvested on site.

Other details include potentially burying the greenhouses to protect them from space radiation—where the plants would receive artificial light or natural light channeled into the system via fiber optic bundles.
