The flexible blades were inspired by the way insect wings will redirect airflow to increase efficiency. In studies with prototypes, the flexible turbine blades were able to adjust to the wind’s pitch angle, idealizing the amount of torque to create up to 35 percent more power than the rigid blades, while also resisting breaking.
