Designed to be used at any point in the food chain—from farmers to buyers—the small Inspecto device relies on Raman spectroscopy to detect liquid or solid contaminants quickly. The system works with the Inspecto capsules, and differs from larger devices in that it scans for only one contaminant and requires no specialized training to operate. The Inspecto can detect particles down to 50 parts per billion, and the results can be delivered within a half-hour.
