Intel's new Skylake chipset platform, due to arrive in 2015, could do away with cords and chargers by allowing laptops to be charged wirelessly via a magnetic charging system called Rezence.
The Rezence magnetic resonance charging system is able to charge multiple devices at once, unlike current inductive systems, and can charge through up to two inches of wood. This makes it possible to install the system under tabletops or counters.
Intel also plans to do away with cables for peripherals with their new high-speed WiGig standard, which could function as short range docking and allow devices to connect wirelessly and automatically when a device is within range.
