Invisible Mouse

Invisible Mouse
Jun-17-10
How do you show a picture of an invisible mouse? You don't. Instead of a physical mouse, an infrared laser beam and camera track your hand movements from the side of your laptop.

"Mouseless" was developed by MIT research assistant Pranav Mistry, and it doesn't need a special glove or markings. The laser beam is positioned to create a plane on the table where your computer sits. The plane lights up your fingers as they make contact with the table, and the camera tracks the contact points.

When your fingers "click" on the table, the camera registers the movement and the corresponding action is performed by the computer.

Since the prototype cost only $20 we could be seeing this technology in computers very shortly.

It is really a new product ,in our daily life ,we don't feel so comfortable to use an object called mouse which connected with computer. Thank you to this new creation ,we can operate our pc with "a magical power" ,we would no longer ask ourselves "why don't the mouse work ",yeah ,you can surfing the Internet very simply days later because of its low price...

Of course, the invention is very creative and it will bring some convenience to us because we need not carry tangible mouse. But in my opinion, it may also cause some trouble.it may be not sensible enough because the movement of our hands may not be identified by infrared laser beam and camera track. Consequently, i think the invention should do something to improve the sensitivity of the identification function. But on the whole, the invention is pretty good.

This is a really convenient and practical invention. If this invention get widely used, this would become a substitute to those traditional mouse. And it could bring us more convenient quite obviously.

It's very useful for the notebook computer. For myself ,many time I just want to take the computer out only .Because the mouse is not smal enough to put in the porket .I hope the Invisible Mouse can be seeing this technology in computers soon.

Today, the rapid development of information.we have close relationship with
computer, laptops are popular with students,The invention can solve the problems that we forget our mouse, this would become a substitute to those traditional mouse,it could bring us more convenient ,More conducive to our learning and life

wonderful invention.Hope that this can be put into use as soon as possible so that my hand will not feel painful any more.

Guys, you forget one thing. Since the sensor is on the right side,
1. you have to be right handed
2. you can't use it in front of the laptop
3. you can't use it, while it's on your lap

So it's not a bad idea, but it highly restricts the movement area where you could use it! My best bet would be to invent a wireless mouse, that works on any surface, even floating. And we are actually geting closer to that, so I think this technology in it's present state will be flushed down in the toilet.

The only issue I see with this is that a flat surface is required- which means you can not use your laptop on your lap. Of course, due to the heat, it isn't very comfortable to use modern laptops on your lap- but, still, one does not always have a flat surface when operating the laptop...

Great concept!
They need to come up with a catch name, like bluetooth or Wi-Fi, to insure it catches on !
I would recommend virtual mouse

Fantastic.
It will be very usefull for using notebooks in places where desk area is realy small.
Great idea!!!!

Imagine a cat walking through the input area on your desk!
Lots of other operational questions like:
1) Hand size calibration
2) Multiple button support? Only one button at a time?
3) Analog actions. They only list "button" presses.
4) How far does it reach?

Good question on the right/left side action. Gives the PC manufacturers a new customization for new laptops.

excellent, for long time , invisible input-device , like keyboard and mouse , are challenge for industry. The main reason is resolution is too low rather than recent optical mouse or hardware keyboard. but I believe this one could provide acceptable resolution for motion tracing, and could be a extremely popular products every corner, I hope so, bravo.

Thanks God that MIT reach there.. why they take too much time to achieve these things. I found the way in this way.. actually. My research is to connect the system as per mind work... as per mind get started think.. For that Sub-consciousness architectural understanding is most important and i have done it out thru my whole life. The achievement is nice and really called Innovation. I love to know the contact such from where i should get buy.. when i want to buy. Please.

This was inevitable - an evolution - why didn't I think of it. This is truely an innovation that would close the gap between human and technology as Pranav developed this technology with that purpose in mind. Hats off.

Nice but hardly a breakthrough as a laser keyboard has been commercial for the last 2-3 years. It projects a keyboard and tracks your hand movements. This is just a simpler version of that. Full marks for usefulness but not that inventive.
