Iris Scanner Identifies Subjects from a Distance

Iris Scanner Identifies Subjects from a Distance
Apr-14-15
A new iris scanner able to recognize a person from 40 feet away could have applications in police work and security surveillance.

Created by a team from Carnegie Mellon, the camera harnesses near-infrared light to capture images from a distance, in different lighting conditions and even when reflected in a mirror. Once the image of the iris has been captured, the system then compares the image to others in the database to find a potential match.
