Iron Lung Concept as alternative to Ventilators

Iron Lung Concept as alternative to Ventilators
Apr-05-20
The Exovent is a Negative Pressure Ventilator (NPV) that is non-invasive so patients don't have to be intubated.

They can remain conscious, eat, take medication, and talk on the phone. It can also be used in a normal ward setting, relieving pressure on intensive care facilities.

It is made out of a small number of off-the-shelf parts that are not needed to produce conventional ventilators. The device fits over the patient's torso and takes over breathing with gentle and repeating pressure, increasing the heart's efficiency by up to 25 percent.

Two intensive care units have agreed to trial the Exovent in the UK.
