ITAG Monitors Delicate Jellyfish and Squid

ITAG Monitors Delicate Jellyfish and Squid
Sep-30-15
Developed specifically for invertebrates, the ITAG attaches safely to jellyfish and other soft creatures to gather data as they move through their environment.

The ITAG (Integrated Tracking of Aquatic orGanisms) technology was created by a team from Wood Hole Oceanographic Institution as a way to monitor fragile sea creatures without disturbing them. The tag is made up of a watertight, streamlined body that holds the sensors, recorder and VHF radio beacon. Different attachment methods are used, depending upon the animal being outfitted with the tag, and the device will detach automatically and float to the surface of the water for retrieval when its mission is done.
