Laser-Embedded Trixels Deliver 3D Images Without Glasses

Laser-Embedded Trixels Deliver 3D Images Without Glasses
Jan-21-15
Researchers have created a new display technology using 3D pixels (trixels) to deliver huge, 3D images without the need for special glasses.

The technology, developed by the startup TriLite, could change the world of outdoor advertising and movies. The Trixels used by the system are each equipped with modulating lasers and a movable mirror that beam the light from right to left across the viewer's field of vision. According to the company, the resolution is fine enough to allow each eye to see a different angle of the image, and the display is bright enough to be use outdoors.

The system is still in the prototype phase, and the available resolution is still quite small—only five pixels by three. However, the team is confident that they can increase the resolution now that the concept of individual laser pixels has been proven to work.
