Light Transporter Tunnel Floats on the River Surface

Light Transporter Tunnel Floats on the River Surface
Jun-25-16
The innovative Light Transporter tunnel from AECOM visualizes a floating tunnel connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Developed as part of a competition to provide transportation in the case of an infrastructure-disabling event (such as Hurricane Sandy), the Light Transporter concept draws on NASA technology. The inflatable, 2400-foot tunnel would reach over the East River to connect the two communities of Manhattan and Brooklyn, allowing people to travel by foot or by bike.
