Canadian-based company Genecis has developed a process to convert food waste that would otherwise be relegated to landfills, into biodegradable plastics.

It is also the first cost-competitive PHA plastic available.

The material is suitable for packaging, food services, agricultural textiles, etc.

After use it composts with a month and biodegrades with a year if it lands in the ocean.
