Melt Mat Thermal Blanket Melts Snow Passively
Feb-19-18
The Melt Mat invention absorbs thermal energy to help snowbanks melt faster.

Developed by a team from Virginia Tech to help reduce the cost of removing snow from public areas, the Melt Mat is made up of a thin aluminum sheet coated with ultra-flat black paint. When draped over the snow, the thermal mat will absorb the sun’s rays at an accelerated rate to melt the snow up to three times faster, and the material will not degrade over time.
