Micro Robot Powerd by Light

Micro Robot Powerd by Light
Aug-22-16
A bio-inspired micro robot powered by light is able to travel on sloped surfaces and transport cargo.

The bot, designed by a team from the University of Warsaw, is 15 mm long and was inspired by the movements of soft-bodied creatures, such as worms. It is made up of a light-sensitive polymer that will contract in waves when exposed to green light. By manipulating the light direction, the team can trigger the tiny bot to traverse different terrains, and even push objects up to ten times its own mass.

According to Piotr Wasylczyk, “Designing soft robots calls for a completely new paradigm in their mechanics, power supply and control. We are only beginning to learn from nature and shift our design approaches towards these that emerged in natural evolution .”
