Hailed as the world’s first, the smart contact lens from Mojo Vision features a built-in display that provides timely information without interrupting eye contact.
Still in the prototype phase, the Mojo Lens is embedded in a hard scleral lens and features a 14,000 ppi display along with an image sensor, radio and motion sensor that will be included in the final version. A wearable unit holds the battery for the lens as well as the computing components, though the team is working towards a smartphone-based solution. The company believes the first application for the lens could be for users with low vision, who can take advantage of the lens’s real-time edge detection that highlights shapes in dim light.
According to Mike Wiemer, cofounder and chief technology officer at Mojo Vision, "We want to create a technology that lets you be you, lets you look like you; doesn't change your appearance; it doesn't make you act weird walking down the street.”
