More Durable Self-Cleaning Paint

More Durable Self-Cleaning Paint
Mar-14-15
A new, more durable self-cleaning paint can be applied to a variety of surfaces and can retain its self-cleaning functions even after being damaged.

Most self-cleaning surfaces stop working well once they have been exposed to oil or damaged, such as scratched or scuffed. To address this problem, researchers created a new paint made with coated titanium dioxide nanoparticles, which allows the paint to remain self-cleaning even after being dipped in oil or damaged. By using different coating methods, such as a spray gun, dip-coating or syringe, the team was also able to apply the paint to a range of different surfaces.

The team hopes the new self-cleaning paint will find its way into more real-world applications, such as on cars (which are frequently scratched).
