A new film inspired by moth eyes could help reduce glare on eyeglasses and displays.
Developed by a team from the University of Central Florida, the anti-glare coating is based on the surface of the moth’s eyes. The coating is imprinted with tiny dimples about one one-thousandth of the width of a human hair, reducing the surface reflection to only 0.23 percent (compared to the iPhone surface reflection of 4.4 percent). In addition to reducing glare, the new coating is also scratch-resistant and self-cleaning.
