NanoFlare Lotion Detects Diseases

NanoFlare Lotion Detects Diseases
May-23-18
A topical skin lotion equipped with NanoFlares could be used to detect disease biomarkers.

The lotion, which was developed by researchers at Nanyang Technical University, contains NanoFlares, programmable nano-scale balls of nucleic acid with gold cores. When applied to the skin, the NanoFlares can penetrate into the body, where they will interact with chosen biomarkers and trigger the exposed gold cores to fluoresce. The NanoFlare lotion would reduce the need for biopsies and other invasive methods, helping alleviate the burden on the healthcare system.
