Nanostructured Material Fights Future Cavities

Nanostructured Material Fights Future Cavities
Jul-15-19
A nanostructured antibacterial cavity filling fights bacteria without chemicals.

The filling material was created by a team from Tel Aviv University by adding a modified amino acid to a standard dental resin composite, resulting in a nanostructure that will kill bacteria on contact by breaking their outer membranes. The material not only eliminates the need for potentially toxic chemicals, it also lasts indefinitely—destroying the bacteria as long as the filling is in place.
