The Nest Protect smoke detector brings this household fixture into to the future with its friendlier, and more informative, voice alarm.
The Next can identify different types of smoke and, instead of emitting a piercing shriek when you burn your toast, will give a “Heads-Up” alarm, which speaks with a human voice and allows homeowners to simply wave their hands at the device to silence the alarm. The voice alarm will also indicate the location and type of potential emergency, and has been shown to be more effective in waking children than the conventional beeping alarm.
The Nest also features color-coded rings that indicate the battery level or the presence of carbon monoxide, a Pathlight options that functions as a nightlight, and WiFi capability that allows it to be synced to a smartphone to signal low battery levels.
