New Drum Beats All, Quietly(4)Mar-15-09 This Silent Drum makes no percussive sound, because the player doesn't strike it. Instead, an internal system responds to the drummer's gestures.The winner of the recent Guthman Musical Instrument Competition is a drum shell with an elastic, spandex head. The player pushes on the flexible head. Video cameras inside the illuminated body read the contours of the player's touch on the drum head.
