Non-Stick Bandage Promotes Clotting

Non-Stick Bandage Promotes Clotting
Jan-13-20
An innovative new superhydrophobic bandage helps wounds heal by encouraging blood clotting without sticking to the wound.

The material was created by a team from ETH Zurich and the National Institute of Singapore, who were actually researching liquid-repellent coatings for medical devices. One of their results was a coating made up of silicone and carbon nanofibers, which the team realized will promote clotting while repelling blood. The coating was applied to cotton gauze to create the bandage, which also has an antibacterial effect that further promotes healing.
