Open-Source Beehive Design could Help Improve Bee Health
Apr-21-14
An open source beehive design created to improve bee colony health has quickly surpassed its funding goal on Kickstarter.

The kit was developed by a team from the US and Europe with the hopes of housing and tracking the movements of the bee colonies, and includes downloadable plans for two types of bee hives as well as sensors that track the ambient conditions and the mood of the bees. As the data from the sensors is collected, it can be either streamed to an online platform or stored on an SD card.

By encouraging the public to build the hives and analyzing the gathered data, the team hopes to learn more about why the bee population is declining, and perhaps find a way to reverse the trend.
