ParentGuardian App Provides Real Time Intervention

ParentGuardian App Provides Real Time Intervention
Jun-07-14
The ParentGuardian app was created to help parents handle child-rearing stress by delivering coping advice in real time.

Developed by teams from Microsoft Research and the University of California, San Diego, the app is the first that is able to detect stress and provide parenting advice in real time, during the heat of the moment. The app works in conjunction with sensors worn by the parent that measure changes in their galvanic skin response, detecting when the parent's stress levels are becoming too high. Once the stress reaches a certain level, the system will respond by sending an alert to the parent's smartphone and offering advice based on Parenting Behavioral Therapy.

Tests with parents of ADHD children proved successful, with the participants assigning the app an average rating of 5.1 on a scale of 7.
