Peloton System Lets Trucks Tailgate to Save Fuel

Peloton System Lets Trucks Tailgate to Save Fuel
Jun-08-14
A new semi-automatic driving system from Peloton Tech saves fuel by allowing big-rig trucks to follow extremely closely, yet still safely.

The partially-automated system was developed based on the idea of platooning, by which vehicles can travel closely behind each other in order to reduce wind drag. This method of tailgating, normally a bit dangerous, is rendered safer via Peloton's radar and wireless link technology. In practice, a lead truck is driven normally while the Peloton-enabled truck follows closely behind—its gas and brakes controlled by a computer that enables it to maintain a precise distance.

The method of platooning reduces wind drag on both trucks, resulting in fuel savings of 4.5 percent for the lead truck and 10 percent for the rear truck.

Good day,
What are the costs of such a system at wholesale and where can I purchase it?
