Personal Hearing System Customizes Theater Audio

Jun-01-15 Designed for the hearing impaired, the Personal Hearing system from Fraunhofer lets movie-goers channel the theater’s audio through a smartphone’s earphones.

The technology, which will appear in two soon-to-be-released apps, streams the theater’s sound through a smartphone, where it can then be customized before feeding through the user’s earphones. The user can adjust the volume as well as the timbre of the sound by moving a dot on the phone’s touchscreen, allowing for a more nuanced setting that conventional options.
