Personal Network Enables Truly Wireless Earbuds

Personal Network Enables Truly Wireless Earbuds
Mar-02-15
An improved radio transceiver system for earbuds could finally allow people to cut the cords altogether, while still enjoying quality sound.

Current earbuds require a connecting cable from ear to ear, because today's technology has not been able to send a stereo stream to two different earbuds without most of the signal being absorbed by the body tissue. To address this limitation, the system developed by NXP Semiconductors is based on Near Field Magnetic Induction, which can create a network around the body. The personal network both improves the signal quality of the sounds over short distances while also demanding lower power consumption.

The NXH2280 NFMI based radio transceiver will be demonstrated at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in early March.
