Plant-Based Sensors Detect Specific Stimuli

Plant-Based Sensors Detect Specific Stimuli
Nov-23-17
The Advanced Plant Technologies program is developing plant-based sensors able to detect and respond to selected stimuli.

The program, funded by DARPA, is based on the natural abilities of plants to respond to stimuli, such as light and chemicals, in their environment. According to the manager of the ATP program, Dr. Blake Bextine, emerging technologies could allow researchers to reprogram the plant’s detection abilities, opening the door to “new intelligence streams” able to detect stimuli such as radiation or electromagnetic signals.
