Researchers have created a polymer roof material that will radiate heat to keep a building’s interior substantially cooler.
Developed by a team from the University of Technology Sydney, the roofing material is made up of common polyesters that have been combined with silver to form a “polymer stack.” The material will radiate heat at infrared temperatures while also absorbing just three percent of incident sunlight, enabling it to reduce the heat inside a building and minimize the urban area heat-island effect.
