Polymer Traps CO2 for Release on Demand

Polymer Traps CO2 for Release on Demand
Jan-09-12
A newly developed polymer could be used to trap and remove CO2 from cars, factories, and even the open air.

Developed by Alain Goeppert, G. K. Surya Prakash, George A. Olah and friends, the process involves a filter containing polyethylenimine, which not only traps the CO2, but also allows it to be easily released for use in industry. The polymer is common and inexpensive, and the filter can be reused many times without a decrease in efficiency.

Applications include tailpipes, smokestacks, and possibly air purification systems.
