Poppy Turns Any iPhone into 3D Camera

Poppy Turns Any iPhone into 3D Camera
Jun-30-13
Capture, view and share 3D video clips and photos from this all-in-one inexpensive device, the Poppy.

Poppy lets you capture and share the world the way you really experience it: in three dimensions. Poppy works with iPhone 4, 4S, iPhone 5 and the fifth generation iPod Touch. You put your phone in and Poppy’s mirrors capture two stereographic images using your iPhone’s single camera.

When you look in the viewfinder, Poppy’s lenses combine the two video streams into a single, crisp, 3D video. It’s beautiful, and really hard to describe or show in two dimensions.

So does this record it on the camera function? Videos and pictures? How does it look when viewed only from the iphone and not with the Poppy? Can I see it in 3D with red and blue glasses right from the iphone screen?

Hi Eric,

I'm one of the creators of Poppy.

When you record via Poppy, it will create a stereographic image (or video) -- i.e. two side-by-side images. Hence, if you look at the recorded video or stills without poppy, you'll see these side-by-side images. When you view via Poppy, the lenses combine the image and you see a single, very clear and full color 3D view.

Our app can upload the footage to YouTube where it is recognized as 3D and thus then viewable using red/blue glasses. We are also planning to develop "wiggle gram" support.

I hope this helps. Thanks for your support and let me know if you have further questions about Poppy

Looks really cool. I have an IPhone 5 - where can I get a Poppy? Like y'all, I had the Viewmasters and we could always buy discs when on vacation to remember where we had been.. Then they were gone.
Good job guys.
