Portable Device Detects Counterfeit Liquors

Portable Device Detects Counterfeit Liquors
Jan-16-18
A handheld alcohol analyzer can identify counterfeit or watered-down liquor.

Developed by a team from the University of Illinois, the portable device relies on a disposable sensor cartridge that will change color based on the liquor sample’s specific vapors. The cartridge is equipped with 36 dyes that respond to the vapors, allowing testers to check the color against a library of legitimate liquor colors, and results are delivered within one minute.
